Organised by the Shipping Association of Jamaica (SAJ), this 5K Road Race is intended to engage the shipping industry in an activity that promotes wellness and boosts the impact of our Corporate Social Responsibility projects within the various charities in the communities in which we operate. 

A percentage of the funds raised from the event will go towards schools we support in the district, including the Tavares Gardens Primary School and the Marcus Garvey School, as well as the Association’s Mobile Clinic. The SAJ supports activities at Tavares Gardens, pays teacher salaries at Marcus Garvey for 8 months of the year and contributes to a feeding programme for students on a monthly basis. The Mobile Clinic is stationed in various communities at different times throughout the year and medical services are provided to residents free of cost.

This one-of-a-kind race is open to all runners and walkers who want to experience a delightful out-and-back 5K route in the important business district of Newport West and Marcus Garvey Drive.

ROUTE

The race is a flat out-and-back 5K which starts on Second Street, Newport West, then takes participants onto Marcus Garvey Drive and back to Fourth Avenue, Newport West. 

REGISTRATION

Registration is open to all individuals and teams (corporate, clubs, church groups) up to the deadline on Wednesday, June 24, 2015.

Entry Fee: Individuals and teams of less than 50 persons - $1,000 per person. Teams of 50 or more persons - $800 per person. Entries are neither refundable nor transferable, and name changes are not allowed.

PACKET PICK-UP

Race packets must be collected before race day on Thursday to Friday, June 25 - 26 from 11:00am to 6:00pm at Running Events Limited, 87-89 Tower Street, Kingston. THERE IS NO NUMBER PICK-UP ON RACE DAY.

Your bib number will be labelled with your name and marked for the event you entered. The bib is to be pinned to the front of your shirt. You must wear the bib number assigned to you. Switching of race events is NOT allowed once race registration is closed. Entrants in the Run event can Run and Walk. However, the Walk race is for Walkers Only.

Each participant is responsible for knowing and complying with all the official rules and regulations. Failure to comply with the rules of the event will subject you to disqualification.

These experiences also help to create filters through which individuals evaluate challenges with a pessimistic attitude thereby negatively affecting their potential for future success. This oftentimes lead many to feel constrained and unenthusiastic about their future. 

Our aim is to redefine this limited view of success in our youths, young and mature adults by exposing them to positive images and concepts of success as well as practical training that will shape the way they think, act and ultimately the results they produce. 

This summer, Wealth Improvement Network (WIN) presents the inaugural staging of First Steps to Success JA (FSTS Ja.). The event is a holistic and engaging experience designed to guide all participants through the formative years of their professional lives, from preparation for post-secondary education, to developing a personal brand as well as to land their dream jobs or change career paths. 

First Steps to Success gives youth age 15 to 25 years old and their support groups ages 26 through 55 years old access to information and systems to increase their opportunities for creating and ensuring physical, spiritual and financial realms of success. 

In alignment with the nation's guiding sustainable and developmental vision (Vision 2030 Jamaica) of making Jamaica, the place of choice to live, work, raise families and do business, we aim to nurture and further develop leadership characteristics in the areas our people need support to have a solid foundation for a successful life.
