“DAT A GWAAN JAMAICA” is a groundbreaking, highly entertaining dancehall revue scheduled for August 1-September 3 at the Phoenix Theatre. From General Elections to Magnum Kings & Queens, Hurricane Matthew to Property tax ……. An array of colourful characters will take audiences through a two hour fusion of sketches, songs and movement offering delightful commentary on the social, cultural and political issues taking centrestage in Jamaica over the past year. Providing an opportunity for laughter, reflection and discussion topped with a few stand up on the feet music and movement moments. ….the show provides quality entertainment for audiences of all ages.
Multi award winning Writer/Director Dahlia Harris has set a track record for churning out productions of the highest quality so audiences know that ‘Dat a Gwaan Jamaica!” is poised to deliver in a major way. The show will be executed by an extremely talented cast supported by choreography from one of Jamaica’s globally accomplished choreographers Orville Hall ….the show is the must see theatrical event for 2017!
MEET THE CAST Orville Hall is one the chief choreographers in Jamaica, working with such names as Shaggy, Sean Paul, Beenie Man, Sean Kingston and RDX just to name a few. Artistic director for Theatre Xpressionz, Orville is the chief judge for Jamaica’s #1 dance program Dancing Dynamites. ‘Sir Orville’ or ‘Professor’ has also appeared in over 15 commercial stage plays, written poems, plays and video scripts and still finds time to tour the world teaching and lecturing about dancehall.
Actor Boy awards for roles in Ras Noah & the Hawk and Concubine?, highlight Dahlia Harris’ competence at both comedic and dramatic work. A nominee many times over, with consecutive selections for the past five years, is testament to the quality of her work. No stranger to the revue format, she has starred in the popular Jamaica2Rahtid series. Harris is also co-host of Smile Jamaica it’s Morning Time.
Christopher McFarlane is a multi Actor Boy Award winner and has also received multiple nominations for a series of major theatrical productions. One of the finest actors Jamaica has produced, McFarlane has also starred in several film and television productions. While his credits are too extensive to list, he has been featured in works for Jambiz, DMH, Basil Dawkins, UWI Players, Stages, JamStage and Probemaster. This is testament to the caliber of his talent.
Kadeem Wilson is an actor/musician with credits including award winning films ‘Ghett-A-Life’, ‘Home Again’ and ‘Destiny’. He has also starred in several theatrical productions including the LTM Pantomime ‘Pirate Jack’, Oliver Samuels’ ‘Who a Di Don’ and a range of genres including gospel, comedy revues, dramas and comedies. His television appearances include Kingston House. Known in the music world as “Kenziz”, Wilson has released a number of singles along with an extremely successful collaboration with GIRL.
Shanique Brown aka GIRL is an actress possessed of intelligence, admirable range and emotional generosity. No stranger to DMH Productions, she was featured on the Caribbean tour of ‘God’s Way’ as well as in the gospel comedy revue “God Go Wid Yuh” for which she received an Actor Boy Award nomination. She has also been featured in works by the University Players, Tribe Sankofa, Tableaux Performing Arts Teams and a number of short films. A recording artiste, GIRL brings delightful versatility to the show
