The Jamaica Environment Trust (JET) is the National Coordinator for International Coastal Cleanup Day (ICC), which is the largest one-day volunteer event in the world. ICC is an opportunity to educate persons about where their waste goes, and its impact on the environment, at ICC Cleanup Sites volunteers are not only responsible for picking up trash, but collecting data on the type of garbage collected. This data is collated and shared with Ocean Conservancy to create an annual report that is used for advocacy on improved waste management practices and policy. International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) Day will take place on Saturday 17th, 2016 at Fort Rocky, Palisadoes from 7:30 – 10:30 a.m. Fort Rocky, is located five minutes’ drive past the Plumb Point lighthouse, in the direction of Port Royal.
The Jamaica Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Association (JABBFA) has decided to join this initiative in an effort to participate in pollution prevention and increase athlete’s awareness of the negative effects of pollution. Thus the Association is using this medium to formally invite you to be a part of the JABBFA Team.
Persons who are desirous of participating in the Cleanup are asked to notify JABBFA of their intention to participate by 4:00 p.m. on Friday 16th September 2016. The intention is to have persons in groups according to their gyms. Please note the following logistical arrangements, prior to the clean-up teams should be divided as follows:
Groups/Gyms will be divided in smaller groups of 6, with the following roles and responsibilities:

Group Leader – Responsible for coordinating the team

Data Collector – Responsible for completing the data card

Garbage Counter – Responsible for counting all the garbage that will be going into the bags

Black Bag Holder and Garbage Collector – Responsible for picking up all waste
-
White Bag Holder and Garbage Collector – Responsible for picking up all plastic Bottles
Attire for the Clean Up and Supplies to carry

Wear your Supligen Shirt or Tank top, as the Association would like to take a group picture

Carry a Small Bag to secure your personal items, preferably the Supligen Tote Bag

Carry one reusable Bottle for Water, preferably the Supligen Bottle

Please wear comfortable shoes, preferably a sneakers

Wear sunscreen and a hat
Process on the Cleanup day

All interested persons are being asked to arrive at Fort Rocky at 7:00 a.m.

JABBFA will issues arm bands and the required equipment to the teams on hand (Garbage Bags, Gloves, Data Card, Backing, Sharpener, Pencil and Eraser).

Review the Card and fill up the Site Information.

Commence cleaning up the area

During the Cleanup ensure that the data collector is updating the form as the garbage is picked up.

During the day water is provided at water stations for persons using a reusable bottle, please ensure you drink sufficient water

During the day a light snack will be provided, if you decide to carry your own food please do not carry any snack that will add to the waste on the beach try to use either reusable or biodegradable containers.

Ensure your garbage bags are carried to the designated area.

At the end of the day return all equipment and data cards to the team leader, ensure cards are completed correctly.
Reminders

Do not throw any additional trash on the beach

A First Aid Tent will be on site for persons who may require medical attention

Portable Toilets will also be on site for persons

Persons picking up garbage should wear gloves at all times, be careful of sharp objects.

Avoid stepping on dune plants and beach grass, do not collect coral, driftwood or sea whips
-
Do not use words like Many or Nuff garbage on the Data Cards
-
Do not drag full garbage bags on the sand
-
DO have a SAFE, POSITIVE AND FUN CLEAN UP
